FAQs for SPECTATORS

    • How do I find Canada Heights? From the M25. leave at Junction 3
      From the M20, leave at Junction 1 towards M25(S)
      From the A20, leave towards West Kingsdown (A20)
      Leave the roundabout under the M25 onto the A20 towards West Kingsdown and Brands Hatch (note: NOT the M20)
      Straight on at the first roundabout (recycling centre on the left)
      After 400 yards, turn LEFT into Button Street
      Canada Heights is on the right after 1 mile. Drive carefully in the narrow Button Street – there are blind bends!
    • Can spectators come to all Sidcup events?
      Yes: British Motocross Championship meetings (solo and sidecar) and ‘Centre’ Motocross Championship meetings are the only events where spectators are charged admission.
      Trials, Enduro, Sidcup members’ motocross and Hare & Hounds are free for spectators, but these events are primarily for the riders.
    • How much is the spectator entry fee?
      Motocross – £20 adults; £5 children; free for under 5’s; £45 family (2 adults + children)
      Centre Championship Motocross – £10 adults; £5 children; free for under 5’s
    • Can I park on Canada Heights and is there a parking fee?
      There are several parking areas on Canada Heights and none more that a minute from ‘the action’.  There is no separate parking fee at any Sidcup Club events.
    • Can I bring my dog to Canada Heights events?
      Yes, but they must be kept on a lead at all times.
    • Will my car get bogged down if it rains on the day?
      No: All car parks are on grass, but on solid ground.  The access roads are all tarmac.
    • Is there catering at Canada Heights events?
      Mobile catering units are at all Sidcup Club events.
  • Are there toilets at Canada Heights events?
    Portable toilet units are at all Sidcup Club events.
  • Are there programmes and how much are they?
    Programmes are available at all Sidcup Club events except events for Club members only.
    The Solo British MX Championship programme is £3; others are no more that £1.
  • What else goes on at Canada Heights?:
    We hire Canada Heights to Youth Motocross clubs, for Extreme running and mountain biking events. The local Scouts and Kent Police use Canada Heights for training days.
  • Can I join the Sidcup Club although I don’t compete on a motorcycle?
    Yes; events need organisers and supporters!

 

FAQs for TRIALS riders

    • Which trials are suitable for which riders?
      Wobblers Trials (2 per year) – adult and youth riders; members of ACU clubs and non-members, newcomers and Novice class riders. Solo trials, trail, enduro bikes – easy and ‘Novice’ grade sections. Practice only; no observers or results.
      Wednesday evening Trials (2 per year – summer, starting around 5:00pm) – adult and youth riders; members of ACU clubs and non-members, newcomers, Novice and Intermediate class riders. Easy and ‘Novice’ grade sections. Practice only’ no observers or results.
      Dick Dickenson Trial (November) – adult and youth riders; members of North Kent Trials Combine clubs; Novice to Expert classes; ‘modern’ solo trials bikes; Novice to Expert grade sections.
      Jack Thompson Classic Bikes Trial (December) – adult riders; members of ACU clubs and foreign riders; all grades of riders; solo and sidecar British and foreign trials bikes built before 1967; Sportsman to Expert grade sections (suitable for ‘old’ bikes).
      Sidcup Sixty Trial (January) – adult and youth riders; members of ACU clubs; Novice to Expert grades of riders; solo modern trials bikes; Novice to Elite Expert grade sections
    • How do I enter Sidcup trials?
      Wobblers Trials – enter on-line in advance (pre-Covid it was on the day at Canada Heights)
      Wednesday Evening Trials – enter on-line in advance (pre-Covid it was on the day at Canada Heights)
      Dick Dickenson Trial – enter on-line or on paper entry form in advance.
      Jack Thompson, Sidcup Sixty Trials – enter on-line or on paper entry form. No entering on the day.
    • Do I have to be a Sidcup member to enter Sidcup trials?
      No. All trials are open to members all ACU clubs (Wobblers and Evening Trials are open to non-members as well)
    • Do I need an ACU Trials Licence to enter Sidcup trials?
      No. One-event trials licence (£3) available for all trials.
    • What clothing do I need for trials?
      ACU approved crash helmet in good condition; ‘knee-length’ motorcycle boots; gloves recommended (compulsory for youth riders); clothing suitable for trials.
    • What trials may I enter as a Youth rider?
      Wobblers, Evening, Dick Dickenson, Sidcup Sixty (see ‘Which trials…..) above.

  • How much are entry fees for Sidcup trials?
    Adults £20; Youths a bit less (Wobblers and Evening trials are less).  Note: These rates are to increase in 2022.
  • Can I enter Sidcup trials on the day?
    Not any more – we may allow entries on the day after Covid.
  • Can I practice on Canada Heights between Sidcup events?
    Definitely not – even for Sidcup members!
  • Does the Sidcup Club do trials training?
    No – we are too busy running events!

 

FAQs for Long Distance Trials (LDTs) riders

  • How do I enter the Sidcup LDT?
    Enter on-line or on paper entry form. No entering on the day.
  • Do I have to be a Sidcup member to enter the Sidcup LDT?
    No.  The LDT is open to members of all ACU clubs and non-ACU members.
  • Do I need an ACU Trials Licence to enter a Sidcup LDT?
    No.  A one-event licence is available for £3.
  • What sort of bikes are suitable for LDTs?
    Road-registered solo enduro and trail bikes.
  • Do bikes have to be road legal?
    Yes.  Taxed, insured, M.o.T. tested (if necessary).
  • What clothing do I need for LDTs?
    ACU approved crash helmet in good condition; ‘knee-length’ motorcycle boots; gloves; rally’ type jacket and trousers (many byways are very overgrown!).
  • How much is the entry fee for the Sidcup LDT?
    About £30 (+ £3 one-event licence fee and £5 Sidcup Club day membership if necessary)
  • Can I enter Sidcup LDTs on the day?
    Definitely No – advance entries only
  • What tyres can I use?
    Road-legal trials or enduro tyres in good condition.
    How hard are LDT sections?
    Novice’ standard for all riders
  • When and where are there any other LDT’s?
    In ACU South Eastern, the Eastbourne, R.R.N.D. and Witley clubs run LDTs

 

FAQs for Enduro and Hare & Hounds (H&H) riders

    • How do I enter a Sidcup enduro or H&H?
      Enter on-line or on paper entry form. No entering on the day.
    • Do I have to be a Sidcup member to enter Sidcup enduros and H&H?
      No. The events are open to members of all ACU clubs.

  • What is the minimum age to enter Enduros and H&H?
    Our Enduros are run under the ACU ‘Short Course Enduro’ rules, so riders from 15 to 16 may enter on bikes up to 250cc. 16 years and older riders may rider use bikes of any engine size. For H&H the same as above applies (15-year-olds on 250cc bikes). Note: other clubs’ enduros may run under the ACU’s ‘full’ enduro rules where the minimum age is 16 years old.
  • Do I need an ACU Enduro Licence to enter Sidcup enduros and H&H?
    No.  A one-event licence is available for £15.
  • What is the format of a ‘timecard’ enduro?
    Each lap has a ‘target’ time – check in early or late loses points.  Total riding time is about 4 hours and target lap times shorten in the later laps. There is an Information Sheet all about riding an enduro under ‘Enduro’ on this website’s opening page.

 

FAQs for Motocross (MX) riders

  • How do I enter a Canada Heights MX?
    Enter on-line or on paper entry form. No entering on the day.
  • Do I have to be a Sidcup member to enter a Sidcup MX?
    No.  The events are open to members of all ACU clubs.
  • Do I have to have an ACU Motocross Licence to enter a Sidcup MX?
    No.  A one-event licence is available for £15.
  • How much are entry fees for Sidcup MXs?
    Check the Regulations – our Open MXs were £50 in 2021.
  • What clothing do I need for MX?
    ACU approved crash helmet in good condition; ‘knee-length’ motocross boots; gloves, MX jeans, body armour (compulsory from 2018).
    From 2022 tear-offs are NOT allowed at Canada Heights.
  • Can I enter a Sidcup MX on the day?
    Definitely No – advance entries only.
  • Can a newcomer to motocross enter a Sidcup MX?
    Yes.  Timed qualification sorts Junior riders into race groups.
  • Can I practice on Canada Heights between Sidcup events?
    Definitely not – even for Sidcup members!
  • Does the Sidcup Club do motocross training?
    No – we are too busy running events!
  • Must I provide a marshal for Sidcup MXs?
    Up to 2018 all balloted riders had to provide a marshal. From 2019, we have a team of marshals, so riders DO NOT have to provide a marshal. However, for MXs for Sidcup Club members only, all riders are asked to supply a marshal for either the morning or afternoon.
  • Can I enter if I do not own a MX transponder?
    Yes – they are available to hire from the SEMX Timing Team on the day for £10 (plus a returnable deposit). You will need to buy a reusable cradle to mount it on your bike for £5, also from the Timing Team…….
  • Can I share someone else’s transponder?
    Not if they are riding in the same meeting.
  • Can I borrow a friend’s transponder if he is not riding?
    Yes, but you must tell the Timing Team the transponder’s number so the timing system can be updated with your name.
